Wikipedia Articles
- Nuclear fallout - Fallout is the residual radiation hazard from a nuclear explosion, so named because it "falls out" of the atmosphere into which it is spread during the explosion. It commonly refers to the radioactive dust created when a nuclear weapon explodes.
- Underground nuclear testing - Underground nuclear testing refers to test detonations of nuclear weapons that are performed underground. Most nuclear tests have historically been performed underground, in order to prevent nuclear fallout from entering into the atmosphere.
- Fallout shelter - A fallout shelter is an enclosed space specially designed to protect occupants from radioactive debris or fallout resulting from a nuclear explosion. Many such shelters were constructed as civil defense measures during the Cold War.
- Rainout - A Rainout is the process of precipitation causing the removal of radioactive particles from the atmosphere onto the ground, creating nuclear fallout by rain. The rainclouds of the rainout are often formed by the particles of a nuclear explosion itself and because of this, the decontamination of rainout is more difficult than a "dry" fallout.
- Vault (Fallout) - Vaults are large underground bunkers that serve as a central part of the Fallout computer game series. Built by Vault-Tec, these structures were each designed to keep 1,000 people safe from nuclear destruction and the effects of fallout and radiation afterward.
