Howard Staunton - Howard Staunton (April 1810–June 22, 1874) was an English chess master and unofficial World Chess Champion. He was also a newspaper chess columnist, chess book author, and minor Shakespearean scholar.
Chess Player's Chronicle - The Chess Player's Chronicle was the world's first important English-language chess magazine, founded in 1841 (the French Le Palamede was founded in 1836; an earlier English periodical, The Philidorian, was founded in 1837 but lasted for just six issues). It was founded and edited by Howard Staunton.
