- German Tyrol - German Tyrol (; ) is a historical region in the Alps now divided between Austria and Italy. It includes largely ethnic German areas of historical Tyrol: the Austrian state of Tyrol (consisting of North Tyrol and East Tyrol) and the Italian region known as the Alto Adige/Südtirol but not the largely Italian-speaking province of Trento (Trentino) (Welschtirol).
- Tyrol - Tyrol, or Tirol, is a historical region in Western Central Europe, which includes the Austrian state of Tyrol (consisting of North Tyrol and East Tyrol) and the Italian region known as Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol.
- East Tyrol - East Tyrol, or East Tirol, is an exclave of the Austrian state of Tyrol, sharing no border with North Tyrol, the main part of the state. The reason for East Tyrol's situation is the fact that Austria had to cede Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol to Italy according to the Treaty of Saint Germain following World War I.
- North Tyrol - North Tyrol, or North Tirol is the main part of the Austrian state of Tyrol, located in the western part of the country. The other part of the state is East Tyrol, which also belongs to Austria, but does not share a border with North Tyrol.
- Option in South Tyrol - The Option in South Tyrol (; ) refers to the period between 1939 and 1943, when non-Italian speaking people living in South Tyrol were given the "option" of either emigrating to neighboring Nazi Germany or remaining in South Tyrol and being forcefully integrated in to the mainstream Italian culture, losing their language and cultural heritage.
