- Vacuum tube - In electronics, a vacuum tube, electron tube (inside North America), thermionic valve, or just valve (elsewhere); is a device used to amplify, switch, otherwise modify, or create an electrical signal by controlling the movement of electrons in a low-pressure space, often not tubular in form. Many devices called vacuum tubes are filled with low-pressure gas: these are so-called soft valves (or tubes); as distinct from the hard vacuum type, which have the internal gas pressure reduced as far as possible.
- List of vacuum tubes - This is a list of vacuum tubes:
- A battery (vacuum tubes) - In electronics, an A battery is any battery used to provide power to the filament of a vacuum tube. It is sometimes colloquially referred to as a "wet battery" (although there's no reason why a "dry" battery of suitable voltage couldn't be utilised for the purpose; the A battery in the photo is a dry battery.
- B battery (vacuum tubes) - In electronics, a B battery is any battery used to provide the plate voltage of a vacuum tube. It is sometimes colloquially referred to as a "dry battery" (although there's no reason why a "wet" battery of suitable voltage couldn't be utilised for the purpose) The term comes from the days of valve (tube) radios when it was common practice to use a ...
- Solid state (electronics) - The term solid state was introduced in the 1960s to describe electronic devices whose circuits contained neither vacuum tubes nor mechanical devices such as relays, as transistors replaced vacuum tubes in most consumer electronics.
